About Us

Polk County Cares (PCC) was born from the hearts of three individuals who were determined to find solutions to challenges impacting their community—issues that had personally affected their own families. Concerned about matters like addiction, at-risk youth, crime, and homelessness, these three individuals set out to make a difference. They began by assembling a team of passionate community members who shared the same desire to create positive change.

In 2019, Polk County Cares was officially founded. The following year, in 2020, the organization was able to purchase a building, with the vision of opening a community center that would serve as a hub for local outreach and support. The goal was to not only offer a safe and welcoming space for the neighborhood but also to build programs and establish partnerships with other ministries in the area.

One of the first initiatives launched by PCC is the Warming Center. Opening its doors in December 2022, the Warming Center operates seasonally, from November 1 through March 31. It is available to provide shelter when temperatures drop to 32°F or below. The center is open to men and women aged 18 and older, offering a warm and safe place during the cold winter months.
